Music and Gospel Arts Department

MAGA staff is comprised of a four-member team representing a diverse field of music and related experience.

Major Kevin Metcalf joined MAGA in 2007 as the ‘Secretary for Music and Gospel Arts’. Kevin brings a long history of music ministry and degrees in theological studies.

Major Ken Smith joined MAGA in 2008 as Assistant to the Secretary for Music Gospel Arts. A published composer of Salvation Army music, he brings writing, arranging and administrative skills and a great wealth of knowledge and experience in SA music history and resources. In addition to overseeing the music publishing program, Ken handles a lot of the day-to-day management of the Canadian Staff Band on behalf of Bandmaster John Lam.

Our organizational hinge-point is Paula Marshall, who joined MAGA in 2004 to handle event planning, our account keeping, and to deal with the continuous stream of requests for music and resources from around the world. Paula is herself a fine musician and life-long Salvationist who brings a unique Masters level education in ethnomusicology and popular music styles.

Kim Garreffa joined MAGA in 1999 as the ‘Contemporary Music Consultant’. However, her value as a creative writer, composer and a person with a keen eye for detailed work soon saw her job description expanding to embrace a diverse range of editorial and managerial tasks. Kim's Bio

We believe MAGA is well poised to serve the Canada and Bermuda Territory as we encounter the dynamic changes of worship practice that face the whole Christian community.
