The weekend of March 15th-16th 2009 was a great time of ministry and fellowship in the Lord Jesus Christ. This was the 15th year that West End Community Church (Bermuda) has held a music ministry concert of some sort. It is part of the corps ministry calendar and has featured guests locally and overseas….all for His Glory! The theme for the concert was ‘Praise Him with Brass & Voice’.
This year’s concert was MC’d by Major Alfred Wilson (Corps Officer, North Street Citadel) and guests were from the Bermuda community. The concert focused on the youth, and on soloists Shannon Wolffe (Alto Sax), Jalea McKenzie (vocal) and Kiarah Rogers (trumpet). They were supported by the WECC band joined by Bandmaster Warren Jones and the Cedar Hill Citadel Band. Over the past three months, the two bands rehearsed together alternating corps and devotional leadership. This enhanced the music and spiritual development of the band members.
The concert was well attended and supported. There was a large variety of music played from the Army journals and publications. For the soloists, it was their first solo performances and they all did quite well.
On the following day, the combined bands assisted in the morning worship service at WECC and the congregation joined the band in lifting the name of the Lord through Bill Himes’ Mighty God Sing-Along. During the service two of the corps pianists – Julia Astwood and Eleanor Lambert -- were honoured for their faithful service to Gospel Arts ministries at the former Somerset, White Hill Corps, and now the WECC.
Captain Patrick Bulloch (corps officer, West End) exposited the Word and challenged all in attendance. After the service, there was a great time of food and fellowship on the corps lawn.
All-in- all the weekend was a huge success! Although we are pleased with the funds raised to support the corps ministries, we were very grateful to be given the opportunity to uplift the name of the Lord and to minister His Gospel to others.
