Michael Bannerman is a Canadian Gospel Music Association winner and musician from Stratford Ontario. He and some famous friends (Downhere, Carolyn Arends, One Hundred Days, Ali Matthews to name a few) have put together a compilation CD to raise money for research into Progressive Supranuclear Palsy or PSP, a terrible illness from which Michael’s own mother suffers. Over time it has robbed her of her ability to walk, speak, eat, think clearly and yes… eventually it will take her life.
For $15.95 US funds, you get 21 quality contemporary Christian songs. Preview the CD, learn more about PSP, and order online at

Michael and his brother Scott began their music ministry in high school, forming a contemporary Christian band called "Higher Power", which fast developed into a ministry that saw them opening for mainstream Christian bands such as Jars of Clay and All Star United. In 1994 Michael won the Canadian Gospel Music Association (CGMA) song of the year for "May God Be With You". The song was later released on a national compilation CD to help women suffering with AIDS.
Higher Power were also winners of the 1996 National Association of Christian Artists and Songwriters' talent search, in the band category. In 1997 they won the CGMA song of the year for "Song Without a Name" and album of the year for "Learning to Fly". They were semifinalists in GMA's Academy of Gospel Music Spotlight '98 competition in Toronto, and that same year the band underwent a transformation, renaming themselves "Lost Coin".
In 2000 Lost Coin won the CGMA Covenant Award for favourite live band, and released their first CD under the new name, entitled "Dark Cloud, Silver Lining". Many of the songs on that album were inspired after dealing with their parents' separation and a severe accident occuring to their younger sister during a provincial gymnastics competition.
By this time Michael's home church was The Salvation Army in Stratford Ontario, where he also worked in S.A. Family Services. The day job had to be balanced with a sometimes hectic tour schedule, as Lost Coin grew in popularity.
In 2003 the band's second CD "Human" was nominated for three Covenant awards by CGMA, including inspirational song of the year for "The Way You Love Me", modern rock/alternative song of the year for "Everything You Are", and modern rock/alternative album of the year.
Michael was also married by that time, and with the addition of three children in subsequent years, made the decision to disband Lost Coin, and settle down for a more 'normal' life. Still living in Stratford, Michael now works at the local hospital in the mental health field. He is still involved with music, working on his first solo album destined to be released in the near future.
